Checklist -Disaster Preparedness

City of Satellite Beach Disaster Supply List

GENERAL ESSENTIALS

  • NOAA Weather Radio (battery-powered or hand-crank)
  • Flashlights (one per person)
  • Extra batteries (AA, AAA, D, etc.)
  • Power banks and charging cables
  • Solar or car phone charger
  • Whistle (to signal for help)
  • Multi-tool or manual can opener
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Cash (small bills and coins)
  • Waterproof important documents (IDs, insurance, medical records)
  • Evacuation map and shelter info (printout of Brevard County Evacuation Zones)

FOOD & WATER

  • Water (1 gallon per person per day for at least 7 days)
  • Non-perishable food (7-day supply per person)
    • Canned fruits, veggies, beans, meats
    • Peanut butter
    • Granola or protein bars
    • Crackers
    • Powdered milk or shelf-stable milk
    • Baby food & formula (if applicable)
  • Paper plates, utensils, cups, and napkins

HYGIENE & SANITATION

  • Hand sanitizer & disinfecting wipes
  • Moist towelettes or baby wipes
  • Toilet paper & paper towels
  • Garbage bags & plastic ties
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Portable toilet (if applicable)

FIRST AID & MEDICATION

  • First aid kit (bandages, gauze, alcohol wipes, antiseptic)
  • Prescription medications (7-day supply minimum)
  • Over-the-counter medications (pain relievers, allergy meds, etc.)
  • Glasses, contact lenses & solution
  • Medical equipment or assistive devices (backup batteries/chargers)

 INFANT / ELDER CARE (if applicable)

  • Diapers & wipes
  • Baby formula, bottles, baby food
  • Infant medications
  • Adult incontinence supplies
  • Mobility aids (walker, cane, wheelchair)

PET SUPPLIES

  • Pet food and water (7-day supply)
  • Pet carrier or crate
  • Leash, collar with tags
  • Pet medications
  • Litter box, litter, waste bags
  • Comfort items (toys, bedding)

HOME PREP & TOOLS

  • Sandbags (available at City sites when storms approach)
  • Plywood or storm shutters for windows
  • Hammer, nails, screws, duct tape
  • Tarps & plastic sheeting
  • Rope, bungee cords, zip ties
  • Work gloves & safety goggles
  • Gasoline for generator (store safely!)
  • Propane for grill
  • Firewood or charcoal (if needed)
  • Tools to turn off utilities (gas, water, electric)
  • Generators should only be operated outside away from any window or door openings.

 EVACUATION READY

  • Local shelter information (including pet-friendly shelters)
  • Go-bag with essentials (clothes, meds, ID, chargers, documents)
  • Fuel your car & keep tank full
