Emergency Management

Disasters may come without warning, and each disaster has its own set of challenges. It is for this reason that Satellite Beach has multiple strategies to meet the citizens' needs before, during, and after a disaster.

The links below provide up-to-date information and updates to help your family and business prepare for and recover from a disaster.  You may also follow us on Facebook.

Emergency Management FAQs

Specifically, the causeways never close for westbound traffic and will remain open, however that does not mean it is safe to cross. Wind speeds can be much faster at the top of the bridge than at ground level. Please use extreme caution if you must leave beachside during a wind event.

Following a storm the causeway may be closed temporarily while officials inspect the roadway to determine it is safe for traffic.

The Satellite Beach Fire Department will maintain emergency operations as long as conditions remain safe.

PLEASE REMEMBER:  If there is a mandatory evacuation, emergency services may be suspended, and we will be unable to respond if you have an emergency.

Pets are not allowed in general population evacuation shelters. Click here for Pet Friendly shelters. Never leave your pet behind in an evacuation.

Sandbags are typically available at local home improvement and hardware stores.  Occasionally Brevard County provides free sandbags. The City of Satellite Beach may provide free sandbags.  If that occurs, we will post the process for pick up on the City web page.

Brevard County Emergency Management provides up-to-date information that is generalized for the entire county; however, local updates are best found on the City app by Mighty or the City of Satellite Beach web page.
