Criminal Investigation Division

The Investigative Division is tasked with following leads developed during the initial reporting of criminal activity to the police department. The Investigative Division is ready to respond anytime, day or night, to the needs of crime victims, or to the scene of any criminal activity.
The members of the Investigative Division first work to follow up on reports of criminal activity initially reported to our agency. The investigators then establish that a criminal act was indeed committed, identify and apprehend the person responsible for the criminal act, and attempt to recover any property that may have been stolen. The Investigative Division is also responsible for forensic examination of crime scenes along with the evaluation, collection, and maintenance of evidence. The Investigative Division plays an integral part in assisting the State of Florida in prosecuting the suspect charged with the offense.

There are a total of three state certified law enforcement investigators assigned to the Investigative Division. All investigators receive specialized education and training in Homicide Investigations, Sexual Assault and Battery, Crime Scene Processing, Child Abuse, and many other investigative disciplines.

In October 2023, the Satellite Beach Police Department and the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department collaborated to create a shared Victim Advocate program. By pooling resources and aligning efforts, the Beachside Shared Victim Advocate Program aims to provide immediate crisis intervention for crime victims in the neighboring beachside communities of Satellite Beach and Indian Harbour Beach.

Tiffany Petro was chosen to serve as the shared Victim Advocate due to her previous experience as a law enforcement officer, which gave her a profound understanding of the physical, emotional, financial, social, and spiritual impact of crime on victims. Tiffany paves the way toward justice and healing by supporting and empowering victims through difficult circumstances, advocating for their rights, and ensuring they are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

The Beachside Shared Victim Advocate Program has fostered a safer, more supportive, and united community. The collaboration has resulted in consistent, reliable and professional victim advocacy services that address the needs of victims, from emotional support to legal assistance. It’s also strengthened the relationship between the police and the community, improved outcomes for victims, and contributed to a more effective and empathetic criminal justice system.

The Shared Victim Advocate program's success was recognized on April 9, 2025, when Tiffany was selected as one of only three recipients statewide to receive the State of Florida 2025 Distinguished Victim Services Award. This prestigious award was presented by the Office of the Attorney General and recognized Tiffany's dedication, compassion, and tireless service to the victims, and their families, of the Indian Harbour Beach and Satellite Beach communities.
