This position is responsible for providing vital communications links between the police department, the general public and patrol officers in the field. This work involves the handling of emergency and non-emergency calls for service, dispatching police officers and fire/rescue personnel, receiving citizen complaints, and operating complex computer systems. The communication officer's actions and decisions bear great responsibility with regard to officer and citizen safety. This person in this position will be expected to perform under high stress situations. They will also be required to deal with citizens in person and interact with other police agencies on a regular basis. The Communications Officer may be assigned to various types of duty and shift hours in accordance with department needs. This employee is required to hold several mandatory state and federal certifications.

Salary negotiable based on experience.

Qualification Requirements include:

Must be at least 18 years of age; must be a United States citizen; must be a high school graduate or possess a state equivalency diploma. Training may be provided by the agency; must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License; must not have been convicted of a felony; must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral character or as deemed inappropriate by F.D.L.E. standards or the Chief of Police; must not have been released or discharged under dishonorable conditions from any of the Armed Forces of the United States; must pass background check and drug screen; ability to multitask and use various computer systems; proficient typing ability; may be required to successfully pass a written examination and/or oral review board; must be available to work nights/weekends/holidays as required; must possess a Department of Health 911 Telecommunicator’s Certificate or successfully pass the required DOH - 911 telecommunications academy to obtain the required certifications within a specified time frame. Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certified or 911 call center experience is preferred.

Qualified applicants will be responsible for assisting elementary and secondary school children in crossing congested intersections or heavily traveled roads by encouraging patterns of proper crossing behavior by school children; deterring school children, as necessary, from committing unsafe and unlawful act; informing motorists, by appropriate signals, that school children are using, or about to use, the crossing and have the right to proceed; observing and reporting to their supervisor incidents and conditions that present a potential hazard to pedestrian safety; and must have the ability to get be at their assigned posts on time.

Starting Salary: Fire Fighter EMT will start at $49,746.83

 Fire Fighter Paramedic $58,723.10

(Pay rates include holiday pay and premium pay)

$7,000 Sign on Bonus for State Certified Medic

$3,500 for EMT who completes Medic School and Solo Process

Department Overview:  Satellite Beach Fire Department provides fire, EMS, community medic, and technical rescue services to a beachside community of approximately 10,000 residents.  Personnel enjoy an aggressive training program and are a part of a team providing a high-level of service to residents.

The Firefighter/Paramedic is responsible for a variety of daily operational and response level activities of the Fire Department. Daily operations involve training, EMS and fire equipment inspection and maintenance, public relations, pre-fire planning, report completion, community medic tasks and other duties as assigned.  This position will be involved in fire and/or medical operations. The position may serve in an engineer capacity and be responsible for fire apparatus operation, including driving to the scene and pump operation as needed. The position may be assigned incident control tasks and may be involved in direct care and treatment of patients involved in accidents, suffering illness, injury, cardiac event and the like. In addition, responsibilities may include mitigation and control of hazardous material incidents as well as technical or water rescues.

 Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida Operator's License without restrictions other than corrective lenses. Must be a Florida Certified Firefighter II with State Compliance, Florida State Certified Paramedic, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and have completed a 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Operators Course.  As a condition of employment, the selected candidate agrees to achieve Fire Service Hydraulics and Fire Apparatus Operator status as approved through the Florida State Fire College.

Physical Requirements: Able to meet the physical and medical requirements of NFPA 1582, to endure/sustain physical activity under severe conditions, lift and carry 45 pounds or greater, and swim 100 yards while wearing a personal floatation device.
